Bojitsu
Bojitsu is fighting techniques using a Bo (long staff over five feet in length).
This weapon was developed originally by commoners in rural Japan and Okinawa to
defend themselves against Samurai warriors. At the School of Sword and Staff,
we practice with wooden Bo and spar with a soft padded Bo (see
sportcombat.html).
The
weapon has the unique advantage of having two striking ends. Each movement of
the Bo allows you to flow from strike to parry effortlessly. Mastery of Bo
technique allows one to move with grace, speed and power.
Though
the Bo has humble origins, it is one of the most powerful weapons taught in
martial arts today.
